NH 55 Rake Driveline Length

I received an old NH model 55 rake which was missing the driveline between the left wheel and the gearbox. I was given a driveline when I picked up the rake and was told it should fit. When I installed it, the driveline is completely collapsed and the basket is rasied completely up and won't let it drop. It looks like the driveline gets shorter as the basket drops so starting off too longis not a good thing.

It looks like this driveline may be for another model. Does anyone know what the collapsed length of the model 55 driveline should be? I can take this one and have it shortened so it would work which would beat having to buy one. Thanks in advance for the help.

Glad you got some replies. Got home last night, had a tape measure on my hip, looked at the rake and decided to do chores first. Thought of it again this morning after I got to the shop. Now I have to go home tonight and search around the bale feeders and in the skid steer to find the tape measure. Such is life....

I have a 55 - also under snow bank at the moment - it has the 3 piece driveshaft deal also -

if i remember right one time when i had the left side clear up and the right side down - to like respread some windrows out - one time it did fall off - but i put it back - lowered it a crank or so - and that was enough to make it long enough

Mine is deep in a snowbank, wind blew past it, so didn't measure it today.

You know they are a 3-piece deal, not just 2 like a pto shaft? Kinda sounds like you got something someone wanted to cobble together to maybe work.....

Go to the New Holland site.

Link

Click on search for parts in the lower right.

Type in 55 for model number.

Scroll through the results until you get to the 55 rollabar rake.

Click on it, and then the 006 gearbox assembly.

This will show you the part number you need.

If you click the plus sign a few times to zoom in on the diagram, you will see tha part #28 is a 3 piece telescoping shaft.

I've got the three piece telescoping unit but am not sure if it was the correct one for the 55 rake.

What I was told was that our local repair shop was cleaning out old inventory and had this driveline on the shelf and gave it to the fellow with the rake.

I've been on the NH parts site and have the entire rake saved (rebuilt the gearbox this winter)but just hadn't talked with the local parts guy to see what the dimensions were on the driveline.

Looking at the response above, I'll check it out tonight and see what the lengths are. Thanks to all for the help.

I`ll try to remember to check back before I leave work tonight. I have 2 55`s at home and can measure for ya and post in the morning, unless someone else gets to it first. BW
