Home built sprayer for acerage

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has experience with building a sprayer from scratch. I have a HydroCorp Roller pump, a 200 gallon plastic tank , and acess to various teejet sizes. Would be running this on a 2n tractor PTO, for an 8 acre plot. Is this a good idea or should I just buy an ATV sprayer? Thanks

I built my own sprayer for 125 acres. It has two 125 gallon tanks on it, plumbed together (or can be used seperate with the valves I have in place). It has a 20 foot folding boom that is height adjustable. The whole thing sits on a four wheeled steering trailer like a small hay wagon running gear. I scrounged a lot of the parts and bought the nozzles, pump, and hoses. I figure I have a total of about $500.00 cash money in it. Well worth the effort as far as I'm concerned.

I built my own using a Hypro 6 roller pump, a 55 gallon plastic drum and teejet spray nozzles, rubber hoses for the plumbing. Looked over the commercial units at tsc to get the idea of how thing go together.I've used it on my Ferguson TEA 2085 makes the front end a little light but with a little caution I can do all my spaying including the hills on my property. Its dark out now I'll try post a photo tomorrow.

When I was spraying commercially 10 years ago we
used 12 gallons per acre 8 acres= 96 gallons you would have to fill a 55 gallon drum twice. When
my father in law was farming his sprayer was homemade with a 55 gallon barrel. I think your tractor would handle that.

Home made or commercial does not matter. 200 gallon tank equals 1600 pound + mix.- too heavy for a Ford 2N. Just don"t fill it. Pump issue- roller pump- what type of rollers? Some do not handle certain herbicides. Plastic, rubber, viton,? You need to know that. Diagrams?- What Gerald said, or Spraying systems company.

Funny how you asked that. We just got one last week at an auction that is home made. Needs some work but it should be up and working by spring. So yes it can be and has been done before

TeeJet catalog #50A is a good one. Has all the parts you'll ever need and all the plumbing details.

I have troubles with a 65 gallon three point sprayer on my MF-135 and its twice as heavy as a 2N. A 200 gallon tank filled will weigh nearly as much as a 2N (1600 pounds). That won't fit on the 2N 3 point. It will have to be on its own axle as a trailed sprayer.

You have plenty of a pump too. I use a 4.5 gpm 12 volt electric pump for field spraying 4 to 8 rows at a time just fine.

Look at the air injected turbo teejet nozzles for really controlled spraying that tolerates wind.

I'd build my own just because I would want to. But a 2N??? I use a 200 gallon tank on a 4020 with 4 front weights and I have to watch the front end when starting out. Just the empty tank and booms might be too much for the 2N.

A 960 with wide front gets light up front with a 100 gal tank full.

N would have be less than that.

Heck I had a 200 gallon Hardi on an MFWD JD 7510 before I bought the trailed sprayer, it would lift the front end up on it if I wasn't REALLY light on the clutch.
