Found one with what appears to be a reasonable price... any good/bad points to these? Supposed to have a 40 h.p. Ford engine, which sounds like a 134 c.i. 4-cylinder. Is that right? Still parts support for these machines? Thanks for any input.

hello. Ihave a CL40 i use my loader about every day. i feed cattle with it push snow in winter. move dirt and clean the barns. i beleve that it is one of the last ones.it has a 104ci in it. i have had to do some work to it. one of the first problems that i had was the drive coupling the coupling that attaches to the flywheel and drives the hydrostat and hyd pump. i could not find a coupler so i found a source from the hyd service that i know and we used a shaft coupler cut it i half bored the old splines out pressed the new coupler in and welded it in.the other problem was the engine i blew mine up. looker all over it seemed found a good one and replaced mine.as i understand it that is the same engine that a saab sonnet uses. i have owned my loader 17 yrs. i have hade little problems but thoughs are the only the problems that have been big. i like my loader my loader has the original tires and paint but getting worn. i have to say that it has been a dandy. ford did not build that machine it was built by erickson in canada. i cannot say for sure but i have put about 2,000 hrs on mine. i dont rember for sure but i think that i gave 2,000 for it. so i guess that iam satified with mine. i think that those loaders were built up until about 1974. i hope this helps. greg

Thanks. I knew FOrd didn't build them, but wasn't sure if it was Ericson or not. If it's the same engine as a Saab Sonnet, then I don't think it's a Ford engine, and definatly not the 134 industrial. It's apparently been sold (not on ebay anymore) so I guess I don't need that one. :)

hello. it is definately a ford engine. 104ci v4 it uses pinto ignition parts it has a ford chargeing system it uses the same starter as a mercury capri.the gauges are setup like old ford trucks with the voltage regulator that steps down the voltage for the gauges. and like i said i had too do a lot of surfing to find an engine. isnt the internet a great thing. sorry its gone. it will make someone a good old loader. greg
