Gitrib,

I sent you an email a few days ago. Perhaps you did not get it through the yt system here. I would like to talk to you as I live about 35 miles from Coldwater and belong to the NI colector's club. Thanks Jim

I didn't work for New Idea, We all know they made the best corn picker on the market, but what was up with the Cut-ditioner? The hay looked like it had been cut with a bush hog....

Actually, the Cut/Ditioner has its uses. I have an M-C Rotary Scythe, same type of machine, and it does wonders with making stemmy stuff more palatable. I know, I know, shouldn't let stuff get that stemmy, but nature doesn't always work on my schedule. They also saw a lot of use collecting corn fodder when cows were in this area.

That's what I figured too. I'm just hoping someone who was in the New Idea sales organization back in the 1960's would be able to pinpoint it more, such as "We sold quite a few in southern Missouri" or something like that. I was also thinking it's possible that there were some sold in areas that has a lot of sweet corn but there again, a more specific area is what I'm needing.

I am not completely sure but I believe snapper pickers were sold mostly in the southern states. They didn't husk corn to help keep rodents out, so I was told.

You are right. In 1919 New Idea introduced the mounted picker and the choice of the snapper elevator, a husking bed or a sheller. We gave demenstrations across the corn belt showing you could change from one to the other in minutes.

I have never worked for New Idea but I have a question you may be able to answer. They made a snapper hopper elevator (No. 308) as one of the attachments for the 319 (& 305) mounted pickers - do you know in which part of the U.S. these were sold in? I'm looking for one (I live in SW Minnesota) and around here there were probably very few or none sold. I would like to place a wanted ad for one but would like to know what areas they were sold in first so I can place the ad in publications in these areas.
