On the gearbox side, right? It's not fun. Unbolt the shields and gearbox and slide the over-running clutch apart. Take the belts off, then the upper pulley. Then you can get at the bearing housing, but it seems like I had to get the flywheel loose from teh shaft, too. There's a set screw (bolt) for that (and maybe a key? been a couple years, can't remember for sure), and hope there isn't too much rust. Or I could sell you my 36 if you arent' too far away. :)

thanks ford farmer ihave done as you suggested fan wheel is free i guess my question is from which side does the shaft scome out it appears to me that it has to be driven out from the belt pulley but that does not make to much sense if the pulley were all that needed to be replaced the it seems the shaft should go toward the flail side

If I remember right, it comes out the pulley side. I'm pretty sure thats how I pulled mine anyway. It's been awhile though... it MIGHT be able to go out the flail side, but that will require at least taking the bearing grease cap off the flail side. As far as making sense... remember... an engineer who will never have to work on it designed it, not a mechanic or farmer.
