My buddy and I are rebuilding a 1953 Farmall Super C and are looking for info on front loaders for the SC. I"ve been told that some people have modified their SC"s to have power steering in the front to make it easier to manuever a fully loaded bucket. Does anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

Mark, I have a 53 Super C with the factory loader and trip bucket. The SC has a narrow front end and with a full bucket you can turn it with one hand on the spinner. I can not see any reason I would ever add P/S to this tractor.

Thanks for the info. The SC that we have has a wide front end, would you anticipate much of a difference betweent the narrow front end vs. the wide front end? Also, did your SC come with the loader or did you get that later? I"ve been having a hard time finding loaders for the SC.

Thanks for the reply!

Mark

I have a 1951 SC. I had bought a original loader for it many years ago. The tractor had no trouble steering as it was a narrow front but I wouldn't expect the wide front on the Farmall to be much different. On the other hand, I had a 1950 or so, John Deere "A" with a #45 loader. I hated it as it was very hard to steer even with an empty loader. The JD was narrow front with rolla-matic. When I bought my SC, I also bought a dozer type front blade with it. When I mounted the loader, I found it just took too long to move snow. The loader was fast lifting and had plenty of power, but still much slower than using the blade to move snow. The bucket was 4 1/2ft and the blade was 7 ft. I've since sold the loader and have never regretted it! In the tractor gallery you should find pictures of the SC taken just after pushing alot of snow in 2002.
-Type "Loren" into the search box to find the pictures or email me and I'll try to find them somewhere in my computer files. I use a loader on a D-17 for most of my lifting chores.
