IH Plow Chief Moldboard with Shin Question

This kind of surprised me, as the plow currently has a separate shin/moldboard setup. Since the shin area will probably wear more than the rest of the moldboard, my plan is to cut that off (if possible) and use a separate shin at some point (I had bought shins at the same time).

Otherwise, I might sell the one piece moldboards if they would look better on someone's older plow. Thoughts?

I had 3 No.60 plows and one 510 semi-mount. One 4x16 No.60 was Plow Chief with separate shin. The other 4x16 No.60, 3x16 No.60 and 5x16 No.510 were all Super Chief bottoms with one piece hardened shin. There were holes in the moldboard before the shin created any problem.

I checked my IH 60 book, dated 8-12-63-8A, and it shows both the Super Chief and Plow Chief having separate shins and moldboards. The only "from a distance" difference between the two being the share/point setup on the Plow Chief and the one piece share for the Super Chief.

My history with these is I acquired the 4x16 plow chief fall of 63, parked it PDQ when I purchased a farm with a 3x16 and 4x16 with super chief bottoms in 72. Then the dealer talked me into a new 510 5x16 in the fall of 75 for $2,000. damn good buy at that time. The next spring I shipped the 3 trailer plows off to an auction got close to $2,000., plus my dad decided one day to sell my 2 bottom 2x14 No.8 and passed me $75. when I got home. I never really bought parts for the plow chief and super chief at same time. Plus we had a parts man knew everyone's plow and how it was equipped (from memory) in 3 counties. How he could remember all of this was amazing. I've actually heard him argueing with customers telling them what they had. He had most of us quite spoiled. He only ever screwed up once on me, sold me a bunch of right hand thread bolts for super chief shares. Those were designed for left turning moldboards on a roll over plow. I uttered a few choice words until I was back to dealer. If wrong, they will not stay tight.
