Looking at purchasing an Oliver #62 square baler. Are parts still available? What should I look for when purchasing a used baler?

i wouldn't by something like that where parts would be hard to find. buy an ih or jd. you can find parts easier for them. buying parts from along way off will eat you alive in shiping.

You must not run an Oliver baler by that comment--the parts are available yet, and they are a pretty good baler, and were pry better than most in their day. We got a 62T and its a very nice unit. Only reason its semi-retired is because we quit milking. Agco dealers will be your parts source.

your right. i have never even seen one. i had an oliver dealership that was less than 3 miles from me and never knew him to have one. judging by the fact that i had never seen one in n al i assumed they were not many of them around. as far as buying something where your going to have to buy parts and have them shipped in i would still prefer to buy something local that might have a local dealership that might have parts in stock. if i were to buy a baler like that i'd want to look for one for parts too, so i wouldn't have to worry about lossing a crop if something tore up and i had hay on the ground. didn't mean to step on you other "green" tractor guys toes.

We had an Oliver Dealer localy and I am 64 and the only Oliver balers I ever saw were the old Oliver 60 baler and nothing newer. If there were none ever around when they should have been new you sure will not find any parts now. Sell no balers - do not stalk parts.

We have a few dealers around, just didn't know if they would tell me much on availability. Just depends on the guy you get at the counter and how much they know.

I purchased a real good 62W this winter basically because of the color and condition. I collect and use Oliver equipment. The later model 720 was the top of it"s class but I haven"t been able to come up with one close to home.

Knotters and needles would be costly. You can sink a lot of $$$ into a wore out baler of any color and it"s highly unlikely that modern dealers of any brand have their parts bins stocked with baler parts that were introduced 60 years ago..

I"m not relying on this one to be may main baler as I have a newer baler of a different color to do the work but I do plan to get it out and work it. It"s always a good idea to have a spare baler or a good neighbor to borrow from when the hay is ready, the rain is a coming, and the baler won"t cooperate.

I have already got a few parts for the 62W from AGPARTSFIRST.COM. If you have a old Oliver dealership in your area I would inquire with them also.

I can still get parts for my 620 and 720's but I don't know about a 62. Call an old Oliver dealer like Maibach Tractor in Ohio.
