I am gonna get a bit more use out of my sweetcorn planter, gonna do my feild corn with it. Any suggestions what I can (cheaply) modify, adjust, or improve on this old gal so I get decent seed placement on sandier soil, previous (unharvested ) corn was lightly disced down last fall. Will be hitting with a high clear min till feild cultivator prior to planting. Guessing 30-40% residue on top of soil

They made those planters with double disk openers which would better than the runners.

i would think your going to need a minimum of fluted coulters to run in front of the runners. if the planter isn't heavy they want do any good either with that much cover left on the ground.

Is it low residue, burnt up from drought corn stalks, or is it 200 bu heavy stalks? (I realize the obvious answer....)

Seems if you can get a field cultivator through it this spring, should work out ok.

Corn on corn. That has it's own set of issues. Insects & fert & disease. Best to come back with a different variaty of corn so the diseases might affect it differently, fert might be ok since it was unharvested tho you will have N locked up in trying to decay the cornstalks just when your seedlings want it bad to grow up. Insects - insecticide or triple stack?

Mybe I should plow it all under. Is is lighter soills, but the peice where I am putting corn is fairly level and protected from wind. I should be good with the bean ground with 40% residue.
