custom hay haling

Was wondering if you'all know what the going rate
is for custom hay haling. Small sq bales from the field to the barn? Here in centeral Oklahoma they are getting 75cent to $1.10 per bale depends on how far from the field to the barn. That is if you can find the help teenagers don't want to work that hard anymore.

That's right in the ball park. I'm in Tecumseh and paid 85 cents to have it hauled four miles. Was very lucky to get them. The fun goes out of pretty for them.

I get .50 a bale if the field to the stacking location is close. Will add some mileage if I"m hauling a long distance, but that is using a balewagon, so no real labor needed.

Dave I'm glad to see that your getting that price. I was getting 22 cents for close hauls and charged $60 per hour for road time, 1985. Bought round baler and never looked back.
My bale wagon was most profitable piece of equipment I've ever owned.
PS Western Implement Co in Grand Junction has Two new ones first I've seen in years

GI Farmer, you can see that if you want an answer, better limit the question to what you need to know. Everyone got off track on the lazy kid thing, and nobody answered your question about hay hauling rates. My info is out of date, by about 5 years, it was 60 cents then around here. Tom

You need to check into who you are hiring! Why not get a reference from someone who knows the kids at the high schools, maybe an ag teacher or something. I agree kids don't want to work as hard as you think you used to but remember a coke doesnt cost 5 cents anymore either. I have people calling me at school all the time to recommend people to work for them. I usually find someone and everyone is happy, but if you want someone to powerwash your hog barn for $5 an hour I am not even going to wast my time. I have hired kids (hispanic and white) and they have worked thier tales off for $8 an hour doing what I know many of you old timers wouldn't have done. Dont generalize a generation on a couple of experiences. Its a different world from what you grew up in. Just like when you were kids and the old timers them said the world was coming to an end cuz they just dont work as hard or build em like they used to! Sorry about the rant.

GET OFF OF YOUR SOAP BOX. I am Not saying all kids are lazy. But they think they should make as much as grown men or the guy that ownes the equipment. seems nobody ever took the time to explain to them about expencives. Plus you never answered my question. I bought a dew-eze hay wagon and want to know how much to charge.

I try to, and sometimes do, work my childrens butts off. All of my family is in the city. We moved our 3 daughters out, and I cut them no slack. I make sure that they know they can empty thrower wagons, feed animals, take out the garbage, and everything else. The 12 year old daughter is 5'6" and she may be getting pretty strong. Stronger than mom easily. Mom never had to do these things, Yeah and last year she unglued her ankle stepping off the be too. My kids are going to have some physical traits to them - should set them apart nowadays.

I love making hay, and it should make a difference in my childrens upbringing!

gi farmer. . . if i lived near yea id come and give yea a helping hand. haying doesnt bother me one bit, been heloing unload wagons since i was 5 and been raking hay since i was 8 or 9. im short of farm work around here in nepa, not many farms are still up and going around here.

I have to agree with Jamie and Gary.I have mexicans and they never complain or not show up. Have never had any thing stolen either as they treat my family as part of theirs

I'll have to tell my sister .She runs a restaraunt kitchen and some are getting paind up to $16.oo an hour and still dont want to work!!Some would throw the silverware out so they wouldnt have to clean it off of the dirty dishes.one figured out how to break into office and stole her cell phone and made a call to mexico that she will have to pay for. Maybe the ones fresh across the border will work but some here are already "americanized"!

you should here what i get from people for working mexicans,i have tried to work american boys here in kentucky for tobacco and hay work,my mexican boys has never beat anybody around here out of a job,NO BODY WANTS TO WORK atleast not 2 or 3 days in a row,here is why i dont work american boys around here,who would cut down a bunch of alflfa to square bale thinking that you are going to rely on a bunch of american boys to it put in the barn before the next rain?NOT ME my mexican boys would stand on there head in the middle of the road if i asked them to

#1 cant work tuesdays or thursdays
has to take urine test for probation officer on tuesday
has to go to court on thursday
#2 doesnt have a ride or if they do they are 1-2 hours late
#3 you have to pay them 3 times a day CASH
#4 you have to keep everything you own nailed down or locked up
#5 at the end of every day(you dont have $50 extra do you}
#6 you need there help so you lend them the $50 extra and you get beat out of that in the end
#7 alway thinking of a way to get hurt so they can bring a law suit against you and i can go on and on what i am trying to say here is you cant trust them,

I have always hired local high school kids to handle bales. Pay them $12.00/hr. Don't have any complaints. Always good workers. Never really noticed what cullor they are. They are all black by the end of the day.

This is one reason I'm looking into getting an accumulator and grapple for my square baler this year. Last I had heard it was around .50 a bale but thats been awhile back. You don't want to even get me started on getting kids to work. All they want to do is play their dang video games, look stupid wearing their baggy pants and caps turned all cockeyed. Most need to be fixed so they could not reproduce. Not really all their fault I don't suppose as momma and daddy have probly as much to blame as the kids. This country is really going to the dogs as far as the new generation coming on. there are soem around that can and will work but they are few and far between.

not to be rude or anything gary. . but id just like to say im almost 16 years old, i dont own a single video game and never will. i wear my pants where they belong and my cap straight to keep the sun out of my eyes. i stick out like a sore thumb in my high school (city school) always had fun doing farm work. hope to farm when im older.

yes a dew-eze hay wagon it has a long snout with a chain ( just like an elavator) running the length of the frame (like a bus frame) then when you get to the barn the chain reverses it takes most of the work out of it.
