I know i'll get mixed responces but will it work to take a 5 bottom JD 1250 plow and make it into a 3 or 4 bottom, you can unbolt 1 or 2 bottoms and remove them but i wasn't sure if it would still plow right or not.

Doing more than one bottom on a plow not set up for the additional bottoms will require a little study.....

Your tractor should pull from the center of the plow, so if you take 2 bottoms off the back, you will need to move the hitch a good fair ways to the right to keep that beam centered on your remaining bottoms. That may be difficult. Then, your tractor may be so offset as to be pulling off to one side a lot, so one wheel is doing a lot more work than the other.

It can be done, and some plows are designed for it from the beginning, but I don't know that a 1250 is, and it could take some study to make it come out right.

1 bottom maybe, two probably not unless the main plow beam is made in sections. I took the front bottom off my AC Monobeam 2000 and the hitch was adjustable enough I could slide the plow to the right so the new front bottom cut its rated width. This is all for a plow desiged to be pulled with the right rear tractor tire in the previous furrow.

Its easier with a plow designed for the tractor to not be in the furrow which might be the case with your 5 bottom plow.

Some plow frame bolt together out of modules and then the middle bottoms and frames would be the ones to remove. A parts book for the family would show how the modules were assembled for the chosen number of bottoms.

Don't have a manual for a 1250 but many other JD plows were convertible by removing or adding bottoms giving those instructions in operators manual. Many were made to be easily convertible yet some are not.
