I have a working #5, I kept a 21 conditioner from the scrap pile last summer, now I need to get it working. If you find more than 1 connection kit, I would like to try the combination connection.

I've got the model 21 conditioner that I pull while using the model 10 side mounted mower. The conditioner generally works trouble free, as long as you are following the row. When you start cutting accross the windrows it might plug up, but usually not. So, I've learned to just power off the PTO, when crossing rows.

The 7' sickle mower works well in 2nd and 3rd crop cuttings, and can in the 1st if you cut it early. But, usually our 1st crop grass/alfalfa mixture gets tall and wind blown over, and it becomes a battle to keep the sickle from plugging.

Last year I picked up a 1219 mower conditioner, and that is a dream compared to the sickle mower when you are racing time.

The sickle mower/conditioner combo can be fun, if you are not in too big of a hurry.

I got the old #5 mower from down on the farm. I asked Dad what a certain bracket was for on the left side of the frame. He explained how they ran a #22 crimper behind the mower until Deere introduced a haybine. Dad and I dug up all the old parts to hook up the crimper to the mower but some years earlier an uncle had given the crimper to a neighbor who inturn gave it to the junk man. I tried for quite awhile to find another #22 crimper but didn't. I finally sent everything for hooking up the crimper to scrap because it was in the way and I never was able to find anyone that wanted the parts. One guy over in Wellsboro wanted them so I offered to meet him in Mansfield to turn them over to him free. He never even bothered to show up. Brad and I had lunch and came home.

i'm not sure you want to do that. i have ran one of those crimpers before the next day inbehind a mower/conditioner to make the hay dry fasrer. i gave up on it because it kept wrapping up on the rollers. it was an oliver crimper if that makes any difference. for the amount of time you'll be turning wider on the ends and getting off an working to unplug the crimper and not getting your hay cut, i think you'd be ahead to mow it and then crimp it if you have to. there must be a reason that outfit wasn't very popular even years ago. they didn't stay around long. i'd sell the mowers you have a buy me a nice mower.conditioner and not worry about it. of course if your out to just play its a different story.
