I uploaded 4 photos to a Flickr album, one is a Cole corn planter but I don't know what the other item is. We found it in a barn at the family farm.

Anyone have any idea of what it is, what it was used for, and if placed on Craigslist what would one ask for it?

I got this in an email from a friend that was helping with the ID on another site.

You are both almost right on the money. It is a "Cushion Filling Machine" patented by David Lochner of Lochner Mfg. Company. Patent # 2.740,245 was issued on April 3, 1956.

The patent application describes it as "a machine for introducing a filler into the cover or casing of a cushion."



Now we have to figure what dad had it for and what to do with it now.

Dave it is "Lochner MFG Co. Ft. Wayne"

I hope this helps identfy this contraption. I found a number on a tag on the opposite side from the hand wheel, but nothing else.

John it is some kind of mangle. I doubt it's for any laundry setup.

Dad had a hay bailer besides this piece isn't heavy enough for that kind of job. It is pretty light weight.

Not sure, you could be right, but my dad wasn't into that. The big puzzle is there is no end stop for a packing or plunging job.

I had no idea this would be the great mystery that it has turned out to be. :lol:

Bob, The pedal does something with the rod in the middle. It is rusty enough that it didn't do anything. It didn't advance it any, but don't know if it would if enough energy was spent removing rust.
The side wheel makes the table wider or narrower.

Dave I will try to remember to look at the wheel when I go back sat. but I have a lot on my plate that day.

John, The PTO threw me for a minute. Does it have a foot pedal??? If it does I have one, but I don't know mine is either but I think my has a mfg. tag on it.

Led, Yes it has a foot pedal that can be seen in the middle photo. I'm sorry that I didn't take better care when taking the photo, but there is a cordwood saw sitting on a 3 pt hitch lift beside of it that didn't allow me to get the angle that I wanted.

The wheel on the side adjusts the table width. I can try to get more photos sat. when I go back to where it is.

Guys I"m sorry, the pto cover is from a mowing machine and is laying on the ground under the whatchamacallit. We are collecting all the left overs from my dad"s farming operation. I should have caught it, and moved it before I took the picture.

This contraption has folding hinge cover top. There is a pedal that operates the gizmo in the middle. It weighs maybe 40-50 pds. total.

is there a clutch on it that stops the pto from turning just so far? what does the pto do when its runnning? what does the black thing on the back do? can you provide more pictures of the other end? did you turn the crank to see what it does? is it on your families farm or somebody elses. i was trying to make a shingle splitter out of it, but i don't think thats it.

Boy! That's a head scratcher ain't it? From the small pictures I thought it was some kind of mixer. Maybe cement or mortar or something,but when the larger photos downloaded,it's not is it? It'll be interesting to see if somebody can answer that one.

I don't think that is all there and I don't think the drive shaft is a part of it from the pics. Can't tell what the wheel accomplishes but there is a horizontal jack-like thing that pushes something along...and that something has to have some resistance because the "plunger" has teeth to keep it from going back....or so it looks. Any chance it makes bricks or blocks of some sort?
