Hi all, I always maintain that I have never met a Canadian that I didn't like and think of their country as our friend up north but I wish they would stop exporting their cold air to the US!! It was -25f Sat. morn, -15f Sun, 0 mon and -15f Tues. morn.if anybody has a way to stop this attrocity they must act now! We willingly accepted MF combines, machinery, cockshutts ect. but this cold air thing is too much!! Thank you for your attention in this matter and have a nice day,"A"!!!

We all cannot waite until the full force of climate change comes into affect. With the Weird weather we have had this year in Sou.Ontario a fellar like me never knows what to expect. They say chance favours the prepared mind but damn I like it one way or the other not this mixed bag.A lot of weather comes from the sou West up here but I tell you if she comes from the East...look out. IF she comes from any direction at all look out.

It's -13, Here in northwest Iowa , expecting -20 or so. Can't wait till Sat. when temps should be up to 25 above for our polar run tractor ride. About 30 miles out to 1st stop for hot coffee and homemade treats, then 30 back for supper and meeting of the Color Blind tractor Collectors. It's a new group of guy's that collect any color of tractor's and give us a reason to get together.I have a TO-30 Fergy with overdrive. I am also aways on the look-out for fergy implements. We have three restored tractors and 2 acres, the wife sayes thats enough. One older fella told me to buy more land. LOL

Doug: As a resident of southern Ontario, I do wish that when you guys in MN and WI accept this bit of free trade, you would actually keep it.

As I see it these weather systems develop in north western Canada, then move into MN, WI, the across Lake MI and the state of MI, they in turn send it across Lake Huron into southern ON, we in turn send it on to Buffalo and across New England, who in turn ship it into Alantic Canada.

There you go, it crossed the border 4 times, and not a single Customs Agent, US or Canadian was able to do anything about it. Maybe we should be happy, there is still something those guys can't screw up.

Anyhow, cheers from down south. Most of what you send along goes north of us. We enjoy a bit of a micro climate down here along with south east MI. Winter storms seem to go north or south of Lake Erie. Then we have all the waste heat from Detroit, warms us 10 degrees. LOL

I'll agree with that. Lake Erie splits it quite often. Heck, I'm waaaaa ay down here in NW OH and it was 0 degrees F this morning!

You're right about the micro-climate there. I grew up near Detroit (the other side of Lake St. Clair from you). Once or twice a year we'd go to Toronto for a hockey tournament and it was much colder there. Even a bit farther south toward Ann Arbor it was colder. Never understood that.

Tom: I don't really believe Detroit wastes that much heat. They might be wasting enough to keep their streets relatively free of snow, but I doubt if they have much effect once one is 20 miles out.

It probably has more to do with shape and global positioning of Lakes than anything else. I used to go to Detroit twice per week, via Sarnia-Port Huron. 402 from Strathroy to border was always on the fringe of snow belt. Once one crossed the border and headed south west on I-94, very rarely was there severe winter driving conditions. I don't know how far west into Michigan the micro climate goes. On this side, if you draw a straight line on map from Sarnia to Tillsonburg, back along Lake Erie to the Detroit River, you've got a triangle in there that sees very little winter. Yes, they get the ocasional winter storm, but the snow doesn't stay around long.

Other than I-94 to Detroit, which basically follows Lake St Clair shore line, I've done very little winter travel in Michigan. I am rather curious how far west that micro climate extends? I can just hear some local asking, "What micro climate?"

Doug,

I used to live in Rochester, MN, which as you know is way down south in MN. We did business with folks in Toronto. They used to tease us about the fact that we were farther north than they are. During the winter, they would often invite us to come down south where they were to warm up.

Out here on the coast it was -15 C yesterday morning... that's roughly 8-10 F I think.
The weird thing? My brother said it was -2 C on his rig in the Beaufort off of Tuk... Should be about -45 there right now, and I don't mean farenheit. I'd be happy to send the cold abck up there...

And we get cloudburst thunderstorms and hurricanes coming up the Mississippi valley.
That's NAFTA for you.
There was talk a while a while ago about Canada making the Turks and Caicos Islands the 12th province. Now there's an idea. I don't know what the Islanders would think of it.
You U.S. have Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgins. Now if only I could refloat my Grew Capitaine and cruise down there till May.

That is the free trade agreement. Right or maybe we could charge an export tax.
