ID JD Corn Planter Model

I have the opportunity to buy a two row JD planter to be used for food plots. Sorry, no picture. I looked at it today but the guy does not know the model number. It is a 3-pt hitch model with steel press wheels. It has the markers on it but does ot have fertilizer boxes. Markers are curved flat steel-not rolling discs. I"m guessing it to be late 50"s early 60"s model. I"d like to know model number in case I have to locate parts--ie. fertilizer boxes.

Might be a 290. Don't know if those came in a 3 point version, but several have been converted to 3 point.

Thanks for the reply. I have seen 246's with the rubber style press wheel. How far back in time do the model 246's go?

Early '50's I think. I had one years ago. It had steel press wheels. Most did. Rubber wheels an option.
