I have a chance to buy an 1190 case ih haybine, really nice for $600.00. Should I buy it?

990's and 1190's are better machines than most give them credit for. If the size fits your operation and the condition is acceptable, the price certainly is OK.

Not too familiar with the Case IH and IH models out there, but is it a hydra-swing model or no? I do know that Hesston built quite a few for IH and later on Case Ih.

We bought a Hesston 1014 (14' hydra-swing) for $600 2 seasons ago, put another $600 in it in parts, and now it's a great machine that saves us a ton of time and is worth more than we have invested in it.

I'd say go for it. Ours needed a few new guards and a new sickle, so we bought all new guards and the sickle (including al the hardware and hold down clips) from sickleservice.com, I think the guy is out of Nebraska or somewhere around there. Got the parts cheaper through him than at the local AGCO dealer and they came UPS within a couple days.

check the rollers for wear and also if the blade is in "time". i had 3 or 4 990's at different times and i couldn't keep them in "time" and they kept breaking the blades. also had trouble breaking the axles off of the wheels. unless its a real nice machine shed kept that may be 100 to high.

Hi johns48jdb , I have a 990 and was wondering if by " timed " you meant in register ? Being out of register will sure make it cut terrible and it may cause the blade to break I don't know . The main reason for blade breakage is the first couple of wear plates near the head aren't left loose enough for the blade to pass by them as the blade moves for and aft during it's cycle . They should be left loose and the machine run thru a couple of cycles by hand before the nuts are tightened . The wobble box needs the special bolts with the serrated area under the head to keep everything in register . Lock washers don't cut it . And those bolts need to be torqued to specs or a little beyond to keep the box from moving . Also the box's lower mounting plate has a tendancy to crack towards the inside where it's welded to the side sheet . I've addressed these problems on mine and it is an awesome cutter in sraight alfalfa and fine grass at speeds up to six mph . But my tractor is to wide so I can't make a good square corner with it without leaving a tuft or two of grass uncut . ...Randy
