What is the best paint to use when repainting implements? These are working implents and have to set outhside. What paint will hod up to weather, not fade so fast, and use? Thank you in advance.

If I may interject..Use Top quality Primer from same dealer. Make sure the paint is compatable with primer to. I painted my skidloader used primer from J.D. and paint from Case. I was surprised that One Gallon of Case paint was 100.00 and it had lead in it even. But had a brand new looking machine when finished. Good Primer as important as the paint. trust me.

Go to your implement dealer, either JD or CIH and get their paint. Their both made by Valspar and priced fairly reasonable.

I use the cheap stuff from Yuppie Supply. Its very thick, and coats EVERYTHING it touches. Very durable.

Mike the Herschel-Adams implement paint made by Van Shickle for them seems to be holding up good for me here in South Georgia. They even have the I H Blue. Larry

I agree with the post below. TSC,TISCO, ect, sell alkyd enamels. They're OK but don't have much UV resistance. (sun fading) Most OEM enamels are higher quality paints. Most OEM paints are either PPG or Sherwin Williams. What's really odd is the OEM paints from equipment dealers are USUALLY cheaper than same paints purchased from an automotive paint supply house.

I tried them all. TSC, CT Farm and Country when they were around. Even used the Duponts, Sherwin Williams automotive, etc some of them at several hundred dollars per gallon. Ended up after years of trying to deal with fading, poor color matches, strange colors, etc in teaching ag shop with going to the dealer and springing for the OEM paints. The cost was minor compared to the cost of prepping a job and certainly minor compared to redoing a job in 3-4 years.

I always use the dealer OEM paint with all the recommended additives (plus I do always add a shot of fisheye eliminator to each cup) and with one exception the dealer thinner/reducer. In IH red, for some odd reason, I get a better gloss using a cleanup grade of laquer thinner to thin it than any other additive. Cleanup thinner is hot, and fast, and seems to leave a lot more gloss. Looks almost like its clear coated. In the CNH Ford blue, I've found that the aerosol cans of OEM do as good or better job than the gallons.
