International 386 planter questions

I"ve just bought an International 386 planter and I was wondering if someone could tell me the years they were made? I"ve got the operators manual but it don"t have the copyright date in it to give me an idea. Also, is there anything I need to know about, pros or cons. Thank you, Todd.

It is unit planters mounted on a toolbar. The planter units were made 1974 and up. Don't know when they quit making them. The tool bar and hitch will have seperate model numbers.

George, yes it is the units mounted on a tool bar. That's the way the guy I bought it from bought them, separate units. He used a tool bar from something else and when he quit using them he took them apart and sold me one unit. So, I'm going to have to make my own tool bar, which is already in progress. I just wanted to know the year model, because I'm not familiar with anything made after the letter series' mounted planters. Also, it's a curious habit of mine. Thanks for all your help, Todd.

Todd give us more information if you can.

Is it used to plant corn? cotton? or what?

How many, and what row spacing?

I've never heard of that model in a corn planter.

It is a runner planter, not no-till. It was used to plant cotton, corn, soy beans, and according to the manual beets, sorgum, peanuts, lima beans, snap beans, etc. etc. This was a four row planter and I bought one unit to make a one row planter. The man that I bought it from used it to plant cotton. It was last used about two years ago. It's ground driven, and could've had either a 18 or 20 inch press wheel. The press wheel could've been steel or rubber. The book tells how to level the planter using either two point or three point hitches. It uses Lustran plates. The book 150 years of International Harvester lists nothing on this planter. The only reason I knew what kind of planter it was, is one unit still had the decal on it. That is all I know to tell you. If you need more information, let me know. There's a picture in the manual,but I don't know how to post it. Thank you for your help, Todd.
