Implement Collectors?

i know that antique tractor collecting is quite a hobby among folks but i was wondering if anyone seriously collected antique farm implements? i am trying to collect old horse drawn implements as i find them as well as implements to use behind the old tractors i have. just wondering how many others do the same.

travis have a large collection of horse drawn and primitive farm items always enjoy visiting with other collectors. may have something we could trade on.

Here�s what I have and can still use from the back in the day when I was a teenager:
1950�s IH disk harrow that came with a Farmall Super C.
1950�s Bush Hog that came with the Farmall Super C.
My neighbor now owns and still uses the Farmall Super C for his garden.

Here�s what I currently use as a senior citizen:
1940�s John Deere #5 sickle mowers � 1 restored, 1 working, 1 to be made field ready, 1 parts.

1960�s John Deere 640 hay rakes � 1 restored, 1 to be made field ready.

1950�s John Deere No, 14 rotary hoes � 2 field ready.

1950�s Brillion Surestand Seeder/Cultipacker � field ready.

Here�s what I could use to have fun:
McCormick-Deering #7 horse drawn mower � notice that it will still cut grass.

McCormick-Deering steel wheel side delivry rake � replaced all rake teeth and it will still rake.

I also keep around a few (7) old John Deere tractors to power the implements.

Alot of work on all these implements, but I have enjoyed "working" them even more.

Don't know if this counts, but most of the equipment we farm with is at least 10 years old. Newest tractor is a '92, old Massey 300 combine, and then the older equipment. Bought three peices of equipment in the last 5 years, a rotar mower, a skid steer, and a Chandler Litter Lime Spreader. Planted with John Deere 71 planters for a long time, and replaced them about ten years ago with a Monosem planter. Still use Cole Twin Row planters in peanuts and soybeans. Still plant a garden with 71's however. Only thing about us is that we have mostly short line manufacturers equipment, and we don't mind modifying equipment. Unless there is a tangible benefit, I don't see why to upgrade. My main reason anymore to upgrade is for soil conservation. Otherwise, good equipment, if not wore out, does an acceptable job. Rambled enough. Have a good day.

I won't turn down a good deal on anything that says Oliver on it. I brought a walking plow home to Michigan from Tennessee a few years ago. If I'd had more room I'd have bought another one. I haven't restored any implements yet,but,they're here when I get time and ambition to fix'em up.

Youd have fun at my freinds place. He has more Oliver implements than I ever dreamed Oliver ever made. Basically every kind of equipment it takes to farm, crops and dairy, he's got one, or two, and even a few of each.

My thoughts are - everyone is showing tractors. A tractor with a plow is a real eye catcher at a show. Plow days always draws just as good of a crowd as a tractor show. I have over 150 implements. I like the imlements that were not used in this area and have spent a lot of time and money bringing them here. Just as many people if not more look at the implements I take to shows than look at the tractors.

A tractor isn't any better than the plow it pulled.

nice collection you have. i agree that a tractor with an implement makes a much better display than the tractor alone. and seeing the tractor and implement at work in the field is even better yet. brings back some fond and maybe not so fond memories for the older generation and lets us younger people appreciate what we have now and see how things were done to get us to where we are now.

i like implements almost as much as tractors. i have several fast hitch plows from 1-4 bottom, 3 wooden wheels grain drills, a rope and chain hay loader, a probably "eclipse" co thrashing machine, and some stuff dragged out of fence rows. i'm glad some of us are saving these relics, because most of the time they weren't seen as being as desirable as tractors. those implements sure do take up some space though.

then theres the massey 410, 510 and ih715 combines, an 803 unisystem snapper/chopper, the fox spf (first model fox self-propelled) and a fox 6250 self propelled. we use all these except the fox spf.

i'm fairly new to the farm equipment collecting being 26 years old but so far i have managed to bring home 10 tractors, a host of implements that i still use with the tractors plus the old horse drawn stuff that i cant seem to get enough of. if space allowed i'd list a few of the things i have managed to drag home, almost all of which are in working condition and could be taken to the field. not to mention the almost 1000 toy tractors i have collected.

If its old I collect it. I really enjoy collecting old combines and implements, sometimes more than tractors just because not to many people are thrilled about a IH 123 or MH 21 combine.

had a chance to bring home a IH 123 self propeled combine but as the deal was about complete the guy decided not to let the combine go. had to settle for a Deere 55EB which isnt as old or rare but did a great job in corn this fall.

sorry but i dont have a picture of the combine and i dont have the owners name any longer. i know he was up north of ottawa illinois. sorry i cant help ya out. it was a nice combine though. the engine was gone through and overhauled. basically it needed a little sheet metal work, grease and oil, new chains and belts and it would be field ready.

sounds like there are some good implement collectors out there. yes they are cheaper than most tractors but as was said about the combines they can take up quite a bit of space and i have noticed that they are much more difficult to haul to shows. just the other day i picked up a 2 row horse drawn corn cultivator and a horse drawn hay tedder. both are complete and in working condition.

I kinda collect plows, i think i have 13 now. Have all makes and one Eagle hitch. They range from 2-14's to 3-14's. I got into it just trying to find one to pull with my WC. Kinda fun to tinker with and alot cheaper than tractors!! We now host a plow day in the fall and lots of neighbors show up to put their trctors to work. Most fix their tractors up but never work them so i let them hook up to one of mine and plow their hearts out.

If you follow the "Combines and Harvestors" forum a little farther down here, you will quickly notice that several folks are collecting combines of all sizes. The storage space required for combines gets really expensive in a hurray. I really applaud those who are brave enough to enter that "field".

with the 8 or 10 of us around the area that get together to farm with the antiques, if im not forgetting any, there are (4) john deere 30s, a 12A deere, (2) 42 deeres, a 66 all crop, an IH 80, and IH 72 i believe it is, (3) 45 deeres, (2) 55 deeres, a 303 IH, (2) pull type new idea pickers, a mounted new idea picker, a 227 and a 237 deere mounted picker, and an old oliver mounted picker.

I have lots of antique IH implements, but I use most of them on the farm. Have a few other brands as well. Also have most of my grandpa's and great grandpas's horse drawn implements.

I have a few Massey Harris implements. #5 loader, #28 plow and a Clipper pull type combine. Would like to find a MH mouted 2 row corn planter in good condition. Also have a nice 1947 David Bradley side delivery rake.unidentified Corn sheller & Clipper fan mill in VG shape.

Forgot to add my F145 4-14 and 620 3-14 Deere plows. Need a park stand for the F 145.Also have 4 Deere wagons, but still use then so I hesitate to call them antiques even if Deere no longer builds them.
