Wagner loader fluid mix

I have a Wagner loader on a Ford 641. One of the hyd. actuators has developed a leak. I have someone who will rebuild it but I have to send it with the kit and I have no idea where to get the correct rebuild kit. That is issue #1

The second issue is fluid. I searched this board to find out what fluid to put in the loader. 303 hyd. oil seems to be recommended most. I have no idea what the previous owner put in it and I really don't want to drain and refill it until the actuator and some hoses are replaced. Am I safe filling it with 303 for now or can I cause damage? Would another fluid be better?

I have a wagner loader for my Farmall Cub and have used UTF in it for at least 10 years. See if your buddy will disassemble your components for you so you can find your seals. McMaster Carr has lots of different packings available very reasonably priced. T.J.

Any generic UTF oil should be safe to top off with.

Wagner is still in business, they don't fabricate loaders any more, but they have posted a manual for their loaders in .pdf, click on the link below, might be of help.

303 is just fine for your loader, thats what i use in all my hydraulics.

Wagner is a common loader on a Ford. Post on the Ford or N board here, someone will know for sure.

Don't know where you are from, but there are bearing shops and other hydraulic repair shops that get the kit for you. Look in the yellow pages.

It is best to tear the cylinder apart and measure the various seals and orings with a caliper so when you call them you can tell them the size of each.

I'm in Eastern NC. The thing is, if I could buy the kit I can get the rebuild done for free. The guy who'll do it doesn't want to mess with all the research and I can't complain for the price.

I'll bring the actuator to a shop when I can and see if they can tell me what kit it takes.

Anyone have any input on the fluid issue?

Whatever oil is compatible with the seals in the cylinders AND the pump /control valves will be OK. I used to work on equipment in a steel mill 40 years ago, and we used 30W engine oil in our equipment unless there was a special requirement for "hydraulic" oil and that was rare.

You might try googling up wagner loaders and see if you can find out some info re: the oil requirements. I don"t think there is a need for any exotic oils for it.

In our older Davis loader we ran #10 foam depressed hoist oil. Worked fine as long as we had that tractor.
