The shaft slides onto a spline and is retained by a bolt.I wonder if the box was droped ?

Matt- Are you talking about the shaft that goes completely through the wobble box or the lower gearbox driveshaft that connects to the wobble box via one bolt? If that one is bent it should be an easy fix. If the shaft going through the wobble box is bent, the box has to be rebuilt or replaced. I had to take the wobble box out of my 474 this past season because the sprocket that drives the reel got loose and stripped the key off the end of that wobble box shaft. I ended up taking the whole box to a machine shop and they built up a new key on the end of the shaft. I installed it and it works great.

The shaft that is bent is the one going through the wobble box.Sorry I was not very clear on that , the one bolt is the bolt holding the flywheel on.
Thanks Everyone
Matt

The shaft for that box is available through NH for around $250. However, NH does not reccomend rebuilding that wobble box because it is an absolute bear to fix. It has to be shimmed almost perfect or you"ll wipe out the rebuild job fairly quick. I won"t even tell you what a new wobble box costs for one of those. Pretty scary. Good luck.

Take the pressure off the belt, see if you can wiggle the shaft up and down- sounds like a bearing going out.

The wobble box has oil and the shaft has no play,we removed the flywheel and found the wobble box shaft to be bent, don't know how this would have happened?
Thanks
Matt

Is the flywheel a press on unit? The only reason I can come up with why the shaft if bent is that instead of pressing something like it should have been somebody beat the living snot out of it with a hammer.

"The wobble box was replaced by the previous owner not long ago,we have only just bought it."

So did he put oil in it? Release the tension on the belt and check for play in the shaft.
