How late can you plow in wisconsin?

Also do I need the coulters on the front of my 3 bottom plow. I am plowing in very rocky virgin soil.

If there's more than 1" of frost, you're better off waiting til next year. Basically it's too late for this year.

It depends seaosn to season. There really isn't a set cut-off. Last year I finished plowing in mid December. Good thing I got it done mid November this year.

Im in northern ny state, and had a local farmer tell me he likes about an inch of snow on unfrozen ground.

You can plow if it is not too wet or too frozen. Too dry sometimes presents it's own problems but does work.

If you have more than an inch of frost, it get's pretty tough going.

Coulters are needed to cut up the stalks & stems on the surface. So, do you have cornstalks or lots of grassy stuff on the surface? Needed. Otherwise they are not needed. They do help with most types of soil to pull easier or smoother plowing, but not _needed_. Under some rare soil conditions it plows much better without them.

I was planning on bushcutting all the corn before plowing do I still need the coulters I am afraid with so many rocks the coulters will be getting in the way?

If you have as many rocks as you imply, how can you plow at all? Maybe you should use a chisel plow and pull more rocks to the surface and get busy with a rock picker (or by hand, ouch!!)

Of course it depends on what size the rocks are too.

I'll assume you don't have spring loaded coulters then. :)

Only way to know is to try. Chop the stalks up small.
