There is a tumblebug on a sale today and was wondering if someone could give me a ballpark figure as to what it would be worth.

You guys got me on Tumblebug, around here its a roll bale mover. They have two wheels, electric brakes and you pull them with a pickup truck.

I am asking about the dirt moving type. It is just to add to my collection and play with. I own a farm with my three sisters and sister-inlaw but do not farm it. My brother-inlaw farms and I plow the terraces with my H (completely overhauled a 350 farmall engine and installed in it) and 2 bottom little genius just to get a little plow time each year. I would like to take the H and plow to a plowday if I could find one close. I live in extreme northeast Ks.

Don't know where your located Dave, but one sold on an estate auction up here in the Seneca area around a month ago. I was right there when it sold, but didn't pay attention I guess. I would guess it to be in the $25 to $50 dollar range.

Way less than scrap iron price because no wheels or 3 point hitch for mobility if you are talking about that tumblebug dirt scraper like in Allan's pic. Most of them got cut up for scrap for that reason.

Dave: I'm having trouble with Allan's reasoning, not quite sure you compare???? HOLD ON A MINUTE. You folks are saying tumblebug, and around these parts the IH model 39 two bottom, two way plow is called a "TUMBLEBUG". I think that aint what you folks are discussing. I've seen those other devices Allan is definitely on, scrap metal is all they are, Allan may be high on his price.

If it happens to be a TUMBLEBUG plow, depends on the condition. I saw a guy plowing with one of those, fully restored behind a fully restored Farmall H at the International Plowing Match. I can tell you, it would take a top class operator to follow him and do as nice job of plowing with a new 3 point 2 bottom roll over plow, any make. Man was that guy turning furrows, and doing championship plowing at same time. I better stop there, Jim monitors this site, and his chest will be out so far, he wont be able to fit at the dinner table tonight. He's just a slight man to begin with.

Morning Hugh,

That's an urban misnomer. There is no such thing as a tumble bug plow. You are referring to the model 39 tumble plow.

A tumble bug is a piece of equipment that was used to move dirt.

Allan: The No. 39 was called a tumblebug across eastern Canada. I've seen it in print on numerous ocasions. They were big along the St John river in Maine and New Brunswick. I've never seen one east of there.

Oh Yeah,

Awfully easy to make that transition from tumble plow to tumble bug. It just rolls right off the darned tongue. It's "catchy" and its "easy to say".

I've known locals here that were raised on a farm in their youth and really should have known better but yet still refer to that old plow as a "tumble bug" when they see one.

Others that always tickle me are the phrases "set of plows", "set of discs" or "cultivators/set of cultivators". Never known one yet that came as part of a "set". :>)

Differences in locale, I guess, or perhaps our ever evolving/changing language. Ive noticed myself guilty of calling a pickup a truck. After ya hear it so darned much, it just comes out. :>)

Dunno,

Hard telling if there are gonna be two collectors there or not. :>)

Otherwise, probably salvage value. $50 to $75?

Functionaly, a value of zip. A good three point blade or loader bucket will work circles around 'em. :>(
