What is the best way to winterize a spray rig?

i had forgotten about the pump. i was told to remove mine from just a home made rig and fill it with antifreeze. the antifreze would neturalize the acid in the checmicals that might still be in the pump. by removing it, if you can, you can put it in your shop and every once in a while during the winter twist the input shaft back and forth a little bit to keep if free. don't turn it all one way. you'll pump the fluid out.

After I clean and drain mine out, I put in about a half gallon of RV antifreeze and run the pump to get it in all the linesanf the pump and then leave it till Spring. Then I just flush it out with fresh water, clean the strainer and I"m good to go.

Flush with water, clean it out, drain as much as you can, run RV antifreeze or diesel fuel through it including the lines, drain it as much as you can, take the strainer off, hang the pump upward so it can drain somewhat if that's an option.

Has worked for me, not sure if it's 'right'.

Was 2 degrees last nite, too late to worry about it here if it didn't get done yet. :)

I hear guys talking about running some kind of anti freeze through them so no freezing cracks out a part. A couple of jugs of windshield washer fluid would do or plumbers anti freeze. Neighbour used to pull all the nozzles and screens and put them in a container and fill the container with diesel fuel so no rust or corrosion occured. Oil sprayed on metal parts prevent rusting (use new oil and some diesel or paint thinner)but avoid rubber parts . Friends used to put some javex in the tank as well to prevent mould or algae in the plastic tank. Indoor storage is nice if you have it.

i have a motor home and they make a special anti freeze for the water lines in them. its pink and want hurt animals if they drink it, its enviromentally safe plus it want hurt plastic pipes. i'd flush out or drain all the water i can and then add this pink antifreeze to your tank and pump it through out the systemuntil i saw it running out each nozzle.
