I am looking at buying a JD 530 baler for my small hay operation and to do a little custom work. Probably not more than 200 bales per year. Looking at this model as they are a little older and more economical for my situation. Thing is that I am not familiar with them. I need some pointers as to the things to look at and what to look for. i.e.- weak spots, normal vs. excessive wear spots/areas, etc. I am mechanical and can fix but just need to know where to look!

Everything TJ says and check hyd cylinders, 2 open gate and 2 hold tension on belts along with 2 big springs...if you hook up tractor, when you close gate make sure that needle in gauge on right side comes up and keep the pressure..you have a tensioning block in the front of the baler.. it holds hyd pressure on the bale..you can adjust that for how tight you want the bale.. move the pick teeth and see how much play the spider has in it, that can cost a lot even doing it yourself..make sure wiring is good on baler going to tractor...good baler just slow when putting string on with just one arm...

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA

Michael hook up to a tractor and open rear gate far enough to inspect the insides of chamber for wear holes. Also check tailgate at very bottom where large roller attaches for wear. LOCK TAILGATE before sticking body parts inside!!!!! 530 has no bottom belt but as stated check condition of belts as new belts are over $300 each. The tread on belts has 3 steps on them and the more wear on belts can cause bale starting problems. Check metal starter roll for wear also. 530's are good balers but the newer ones are much improved. I really like my 467 megawide with net wrap.Tx Jim

You can purchase JD belts direct from the USA OEM supplier for less than $200 each and that is a delivered price.

Thanks for the info! That is the kind of stuff I was looking for. Wish I could justify the 467 but can't. I'm too small. I have 4 spotted around here in the 3000.00 to 3500.00 range. One is privately owned, shedded and in good shape cosmetically and the one I would prefer. Now I will go look at the stuff you suggested.

I don't believe that a 530 has a bottom belt. They are quite a horse ,makes a BIGGG!!! 6x6 heavy 2000 to 2200lb. bale .Require dual Hyd. and 12volt for the bale track.Good baler ,first came out in the mid 80's.First of the new generation baler by Deere.

Thanks for the info! I have dual hyd. on my IH 1066 and will have to check to see if I have the 12V out the back. If not I can put it there.

I ran a 530 for 9 years or so. baler did a great job. You don't need 12 volts out of the back of the tractor, what you need is a 12 volt connection to the power on the monitor. They make 5x6 foot bales not 6x6 foot bales as mentioned earlier. I have access to belts to fit the Deere balers for I believe around 200.00 each. I have a set on my 535 that I have now and they are doing great, they have the new style laces on them. I also have a 567 with cover edge net which I really really like! You don't need dual hydraulics either unless you have a hydraulic pick up lift on it.

don't know anything in particular on this model baler, but have owned a round baler and used it a lot several years ago. the belts all need to be the same length, that can be fixed with a little work, check all the bearings on the ends of the shafts, pick up teeth all still on, look like its greasey mess, if so it been taken care of where a clean one might mean its not been serviced a lot. check the condition of the bottom belt and the condition of the clips holding it together. here again can be repaired but its a job.check the drive shaft and u joints for wear or being loose. if the paint looks good it probably been shedded and that can make a difference. can't help any on the price of it.
