Hello,

I was wondering what a John Deere plow is worth. It may go to a John Deere B. It has 2 plows, 2 discs, and what seems to be 2 metal wheels. It is in great shape, except all the paint is off from being out in the weather. I'm just getting into tractors and implements. Thank you, Joe

If it is in as good a shape as you say then you should be able to read a three didgit number on the top of each main beam of the plow. Give us those numbers and we can positively identify the model and the years it was produced. A wild geuss is it's a #52 or a #4B.

Well, to help with your learning of terminology of plows, the "2 plows" are known as bottoms consisting of moldboards and shares, and the "2 discs" are known as coulters. You say "it is in great shape", yet you also say "what seems to be 2 metal wheels". How can it be in great shape if you aren"t sure about the wheels? Quoting again "it may go to a John Deere B". If it"s a 2 bottom pull behind plow, it can go to ANY tractor. Not trying to be harsh or smart alec, just helping with your plow learning. A few years ago I bought a good John Deere model 44H plow for $50, but it did need one tire.

Johns48jdb,I reread your post and you stated 3 wheels so I shall give my apology for not reading well enough. I also reread the original post and I think he has a moldboard plow. Tx Jim

i think i read it wrong too. i was showing and selling a man a two and a three pan plow today and had disk turning plows on my mind. at any route if its a pull type plow it has to have three wheels right? it could have the rear wheel missing. we just need some more info from orginal poster.

Does this plow hook to the drawbar to pull it with? If so it could be a #52,4b or 44. need pictures for the correct id.

johns48JDb can you tell me how you know this mans plow is a 402 without the aid of a picture? All 400 series plows I saw or used to plow had "3" wheels. JD made several series of tractor drawn disk plows. I own a 90 series 2 disk but to mention a few more series,100,200,300,500,600. The larger the series # the heavier the frame and wheels. Just curious,Tx Jim

first welcome to all newbies! the plow you have if its a jd is a model 402. does it raise with a hydraulic cylinder or does it raise out of the ground if you pull on a rope. these plows will clean up quick enough so don't let that scare you. it might have to be drug around in a circle for a while to make it clean up, but it can be done. it can also be cleaned up with a wire brush on a side grinder or sand blasted if it comes to that. it should have 3 wheels on it, 2 at the front and one at the back. does it look like it had rubber tires on it at one time. i've never seen one with rubber on it but was curious if somebody changed them out in some way. the wheel that runs in the furrow, should slide up and down on a rod. it may take learning some new words to get it broke lose. jack it up where you can turn it by hand and feel it full of your favorite breaker-looser stuff. a little heat may be needed to. be careful if you've put oil down in the pipe because if it gets to hot it can blow out and catch on fire. its ok as long as it doesn't get on you. good luck with your find. clean it up and use it or show it.

First, I suggest you learn about these plows and know what one in "good working condition" is..!

If it has been out in the weather and is rusty and/or down in the ground, it just might not be worth more than Junk... Ever tried to "Scour" a rusty plow..?? Try it sometime.. Anyone who buys one in that shape gets what they deserve...a Lesson..!!! So much is comming out of fence-rows lately and the parts that need a real good "ground Polish" all usually need replaced. Are you even sure the steel wheels are not rusted away on the bottoms..? "Good Condition" maybe $200+..scrap maybe $20.oo
