I was wondering if any off the baler guys could give me a clue as what to try next. I am baling chopped corn stalks. It will either plug at teh end of the auger(most of the time) or across teh whole pickup just infront of the auger. I have tryed driving slower encrease baler speed. The hang up at teh end even happens in hay. But, its much worse in teh corn stalks.
Thanks Bob

most of the time when i've tried to bale long crops they are just to long to go across the width of the baler and get turned right to feed into the baler chamber. don't know why everybody is bailing corn stalks this year except to crush and grind. i would think that corn stalk hay in round bales would have to be put indoors to keep from runing. i don't see them lasting outside at all. i think that the guys who are trying this are in for more headackes than its worth. i know they beat a snow ball, but i'm not sure that is true in this case.

You might try grinding the auger edge flat(square). That made a huge difference on my combine. The auger is much more agressive now and will feed in grass ans green beans that it would not before I ground the edge.

Corn stalks can be light and fluffy and just bounce in front instead of feeding in..

They are not stringy either to help pull the next one in like hay will.

There may be no fix as the baler was not designed to bale corn stalks.

I remember years ago we would try to bale the husks left over from shelling ear corn with a stationary sheller from a crib.

What a pain to try and get the husks thru that New Holland baler.

Bob are both the pick-up and auger drive belts tight? I have seen people drive lock washers on the auger flights. This was done by putting split part(out straight) against flight and tapping on with hammer. They said it helped but I never witnessed in operation. Tx Jim
