A friend got a good JB/van Brunt drill for me at an auction this week.I can't I.D. it 'cause rust has obscured the marks.Looks to have an F and definitely a "B". seems like that is preceeded by a 11x? Anyhow, it has 11 pairs of discs each corresponding to a chute. It has two side by side fertilizer hoppers, 2 seed hoppers and a long grass seed hopper of galvanized sheet metal on the front. I can't get the discs off at position 2 and 4. They won't turn. How do you get them off?

Take the plug out in the center of the disc. There's a screw down inside there that has a "socket" head, either "square", on the older drills or "hex" (Allen) on the newer drills.

A "John Deere drill wrench" will have a square "bit" sticking out of it to fit the square type, or you can use a square socket bit adapter of the correct size.

If it's the "hex" type, it's 5/16, IIRC.

In each opener "pair", the LH disc retaining bolt uses LH thread, the RH disc uses RH thread.
