hey guys-
I have a JD 44 plow I just bought this year and have used a little bit. I broke the point off of one of the shears(hit a rock) and now needs to be fixed. This is making me wonder if it wouldn't almost be easier(or possible) to get ahold of some newer style frogs to put on so I could go with newer throw away shears. Has anyone ever done this or would it even be possible?

I agree with what others have said especially concerning Mr. Coates. He is a class act, one of a kind. I'm in the process of switching a #44 from "old style" to "new style" bottoms - 14 inch HS. New style frogs bolt right up to the shank/standard. I've never checked on frogs but moldboards, shins, shares and landsides for 14 inch HS style bottoms are available from JD, pricey in some cases but available.

I bought two "complete" units from Doug for $100 each. That was everything from the standard down. I just unbolted my standard and bolted the new one to my plow. It only took me about 1/2 hour and I was ready to plow.

All of the HS and NU bottoms will bolt right on but not the metric one. If you are going to plow much and in rocky ground its the way to go.

HS is high speed, NU is new universal. Both have throw away points and shins.
