I have a 3 bottom trip John Deere #55 plow. The problem I have is removing the land wheel from the axle. I removed the cap and when I pull on the wheel to remove, it slides about 1 inch on the axle and then hits something metallic. I cannot remove the wheel. I also tried tripping the plow and removing the grease zerk with no avail. Everyone says it should pull right off. Help!

Also, what does the A or B mean in 55A or 55B?

Eric I just went thru the same problem on my JD #66 plow. Spray the wheel down real good with areokroil. Next take a short 5/16-3/8" log chain and hook it around two wheel spokes on opposite sides of the wheel right down next to the hub. Then take a small hydraulic bottle jack and put the ram up next to the end of the axle shaft and the base of the jack against the chain loop you made previously. Tighten up the jack and a couple of pumps the wheel will be off undamaged. Wire brush the wheel and hub clean and use plenty of antisieze when you go back together. Not sure about the extra letters. Good luck.

I had the same problem with a 44 trip plow. The wheel is stuck on the shaft coming out of the clutch. I took a great big ol gear puller and put a brass flat across the axle and pulled it up tight with a liberal dosing of pentetrating oil. It took 3 days of walking by and spinning the wrench a little more and little more till one day it was off .
Hope it helps. It seems that dirt and stuff gets in the tapered part of the axle between the wheel and rusts it tight. Put mine back together with lots of antisieze.
