Hi, How do you tell if the needle brake on a 24t baler needs replacing? Mine is just worn down to the rivits that hold the pad to the backing. Is it like trucks that when it is worn down to the rivits it needs replacing?

Another question - there is a small spring on the clutch dog that turns the needle mechanism once it trips. The spring is about an inch and a half long, and clips on a small post coming out of an arm on the clutch..and the little pin is broke off. I tapped the broken piece out with a punch, and now I need a new one. Any idea where I can get one?

Thanks for your help.

I just got over to the John Deere dealer and was a little shocked. The brake pads are $40 EACH! And the pin and spring would have cost $15.

I think I can make a new pin out of 1/4 steel, but am not sure what to do with the brake. Anyone have any thoughts on where to get pads any cheaper?

Do you have a manual for the baler?? If not thats the first place I would start at. I know in the manual for the 14T they have a good number of pages explaining all that stuff. Also any good JD deal will have or be able to get you a manaul for it I know because we got one for the 14T just a year or so ago. Cost is around $30

If after tripping tying system the needle rack(frame) moves easily the brake needs tightening or relacing. I think it's past time to replace brake pads if they are down to rivets. Have you tried JD for the little pin? Tx Jim
