Hey folks, I'm looking for the implement name I need to 'turn' the soil through next year prior to me planting some field grass (to kill weeds, break up soil, etc). I can picture it in my head, 4 'blades', each curved near the top so the soil 'turns over'.

I realize I'll need blades after, but I can't seem to think of the name of the first implement I need.

Thanks in advace!

the term your looking for is a turning plow. it can have 1 through 6 or 8 bottoms on it. they can range in width from 12, 14 or 16 inch bottoms, unless your talking about a trailer plow that i use to pull for a man who row cropped 6000 acres. we had a 8630, 8640 both jds and a steiger panter. we pulled 7 24 inch flat bottoms with the steiger and 6 with the jds. you need to state what hp tractor your going to hook it up to and the type of ground that your going to break, so others who visit here can tell you how many bottoms your tractor will pull

I'll be using a 55 Ford 640. Not sure of the HP on it to tell you the truth.

Up here in the north, we would plow with a molboard plow in the fall, and field cultivate or disk in the spring to prep the soil for planting. The field cultivator or disk might have a harrow on the back of it, or one would harrow (aka drag) the ground to really level it right before planting.
