Can one be converted, I have a 540 pto JD 76" snow blower and bought a S130 Bobcat, a new skid steer blower is about $5000, so I was wondering If I could convert the pto to hydraulic drive and use the skid loader for it. Anyone ever done this any ideas?? The heated cab on the skid would be better than the open station on the tractor. 1/2 mile driveway so just pushing snow with a bucket doesnt cut it.

Sure can.... Now price out that motor that will output about 40 hp and you're good to go. I'd sit down before I asked for that price though...
The power output is only a function of speed and torque, and torque a function of it's displacement. It may very well be cheaper to get a high speed, lower displacement motor and drive a jackshaft/speed reducer to get the 540 you need for the blower. Big displacement low speed motors will be expensive.

Dave,

Just thinking out loud here...

1st, I"d try to find out what motor is on a hydraulic blower. That would give you an idea of the motor specs. Torque, GPM requirement.

Then can you get that size motor?

If you adapt a hyd. motor to the 1 3/8" spline you already have, you might "slow down" the blower too much. Probably have to remove original PTO gear box and fab up a mount and shaft adaptor.

Don"t most blowers have 2 shafts, 1 driving the auger out the side and one straight through driving the fan? I would go look at mine but it is buried all the way in the back of the barn right now.

Just some thoughts.
Rick

Well Dave anything can be done with enough time and money. Check out this link the have a lot of orbit motors to choose from even a few with a 6t 1-3/8 spline output shaft on them. No I don't own stock in them but I do like the selection of oddball parts they have for projects just like yours. I have bought from them before and have been happy with the few items I have bought. I am just curious if you can get enough hydraulic flow out of your bobcat to put enough power to the blower to really make it useful. Good luck and let us know if it works out.

Dave,
I have seen it done, but know very little about the details. I know they built a siksteer mount in place of the 3pt and then had a hyd. driven motor that ran the blower shaft off from the aux. hyd. of the skidsteer. Your machine should have plenty of output to run a hyd. driven motor for the blower.
