Hi-

I have an old IH Mccormick 1-PR corn picker. I just bought it this winter for $150, and took it out into the field to try it out today. The machine runs great except for husking the cobs. It will only husk about 50% of the cobs going through it or less. My corn is very dry now, and the husks are loose on the cob. Could it be the ear forwarder belt? The rubber with the teeth on it are in rough shape, and the rubber flaps seem too flexible. The book says these put pressure on the cob for the rolls to grab husks. Also, the steel rolls have 7/16 threaded square head set screws in them to grab husks. There are about 15 of these per steel roll. I am thinking of cutting some new rubber flaps for the ear belt. Any help on this subject would be great for those of you that have used one of these machines before. How can I get it to husk better?! Thanks!

Jesse

we use a pr 1 also. we replaced the rubber also, helped some but if it is damp or drisling it will clean much better, they are a good picker but left some to be desired in husking, good luck
