Need help! Remove mower blade on JD 1060S

I bought a JD Frontier GM 1060S 5' finishing mower to replace a 5" Caroni which worked well. I cannot get the middle blade off to sharpen. I cannot immobilize the shaft/pulley in order to loosen the bolt that holds the blade on. I have tried everything: I locked down the PTO, but the mower shaft freewheels. All the washers are round underneath the deck. Above deck there is no hole in the pulley to insert any sort of pin. Dealer is absolutely no help. They say bring it in, which is very hard for me to do, but will if I have to. Please advise. [email protected]

kinda lost here about what is going on. nothing new for me. do you have a big enough pipe wrench to fit the pulley. they also make electric driven impact wrenches that work real good without having to have an air compressor. if your doing much work on equipment you need an air compressor any way, but an electric impact wrench is a cheaper way out.

take a 2 x 4 and use it to hold the blade in a spot where ever you can jam it in between the blade and the deck. problem solved.

Hi: If you have access to an impact wrench (air or electric), it will likely do the job. Hope this helps.

If I have to buy an electric impact wrench I will but...the pulley shaft turns quite freely, I can't lock it down. I've never used a powered impact wrench. Would it work in a situation like this? If I could get the pulley to stop turning I have a 5' torque bar I could use on it.

Use an impact wrench. They work if they have enough torque. Get the most torque you can afford. If you take it to a dealer he will use an impact wrench, make short work of it, and may or may not charge a big price. This is a good excuse for you to get an air compressor. Safety first when working under the mower. Mount on tractor, pick up, put blocks under mower for safety.

Ok, I suppose I will go the impact wrench route. Maybe I will rent one first to make sure it works. The 2x4 idea does not work I tried it: The blade just turns on the bolt, the bolt holds tight, which then causes the pulley to slip on the belt. Maybe the belt tension will be sufficient with the use of the impact wrench.

Sounds like the bolt was a little long and bottomed out in the threads.
