It has been too many years to remember the exact procedure. I DO remember that you cannot time a slightly wore chain as the wear makes it too long between parts that have too be in time and you CANNOT shorten a chain by taking a link out, that also will cause problems. First thing to do is get and put on new chains of proper number of links and after that it will be easy to time. I have a book someplace and I have 2 66 balers setting here to make 1 complete one out of if I ever get the time. A slightly wore chain that you do not even realize is wore will make timing problems.

I don't know the comparison from 66 to 67. I have a Hayliner 68 and it times easily following the book, but if this is your first try at timing, I would be really cautious trying it without the book instructions. On the 68 you set the plunger crank drive vertically between two marks that are punched into the frame, then set the feeder tine bar pivot so it is between the two marks on the rear feeder tine support angle. It is necessary to remove the feeder drive chain to complete this. After a retimimg, move the plunger through a complete cycle slowly by hand to recheck. It may be necessary to do this several times to get it right!! Then you proceed to time the knotters and needle drive. Way to much detail to type in here. This may not apply to the 66.
