Take sway out of grain wagon

Hi guys. Ive got a couple of grain wagons and when I get them up to about 10-12mph they have a lot of sway to them. They have good gears(12 ton with 6 bolt) under them and I didn't know if I was to tighten up the front ends if this would help or make it worse? Appreciate it Thanks.

A little of it depends on how the steering geometry is set up. A gear that is quick and agile and good to get around with in tight spots is gonna sway a more than a gear with slow responding steering, at least in my point of view. They all will sway if the pivot points are worn. I had a hay rack that darted back and forth in quick jerks because the spindles were tight. After I got them freed up and greased it trailed reasonably well. Jim

First place I look for is slop in the bolt that holds the hitch pole. Then the kingpin. Then move to the pins in the steering rod ends. Also check the toe-in on the wheels. If one wheel is out and the other is in, it can cause swaying. Also check that the wheel bearings aren't overly loose. Another simple thing-are the tires the same OD?

I've rebuilt about 10 running gears and put hay racks on all of them. Each gear I've done I put all new bolts and bushings if needed in the front. The bolts that usually pivot wear bad even when greased well. When I'm done you can go 40 plus MPH before they even think about moving around. This is really the only way and it's not that bad of a job. What kind of gears are under the boxes?

So what do we use for a bushing material? Bolts & pins & bearings & chain I can souce pretty good. But, never looked hard enough to really figure out where to get bushings - you need inner & outer diameters, & .... I get lost on all that.
