hey guys
have a 44 JD plow that is set for 14" bottoms. I have heard there is a way to adjust these to make them 16". Is this true and if so, how do you do it?

No, moved to Florida 2004. Lived in or around Waseca till 1982. Moved to Mankato. Then Owatonna. Traverse City, MI in 92. Back to Mankato in 95. Was on the Waseca Fire Dept for 7 yrs. back in the late 70's. All of my family is still around Waseca-Janesville-Waterville. Are you near the Selviks?

Dave, Amboy. I dated a girl from Amboy (Willow Creek). But that was about 40 yrs. ago.

Leroy has a much more thorough explanation than mine. Where are you in S MN? I"m in Waseca County.

It is a small world indeed my friend. I grew up in Blooming Prairie and currently live and work in Amboy. But my mom is originally from Waseca and I still have quite a few relatives there. Her maiden name was Cahill.

Small world. Where in Waseca Co? I grew up 12 miles SW of Waseca, 6 miles NE of Waldorf, near Silver Lake.

The answer is both yes and no. Depending on what frame you have. The SMALL frame is only 10" or 12"; MEDIUM frame is only 12" or 14" and they cannot be adjusted for a 16" size. Now if you have a large frame version then yes they can be adjusted for either 14" or 16" and to tell if you have a large frame it will measure 15" beam to beam, A medium frame will measure 13" while a small frame will measure 11". And on all models if the offset of the shanks are to the inside they are set for the small size but if the ofset is turned out they are set for the larger size. You allso reverse the furrow wheel to narrowest setting for small size or widest setting for larger size. You also have to adjust tail wheel as well. Not an easy job.

The shanks which attach the frogs to the frame are offset. If the offsets are to the centerline of the plow it is setup for 14" moldboards. If they're offset away from the centerline, then it is configured for 16" moldboards. You could probably move 16" to 14" for a narrower cut, but I doubt the reverse is true as you will leave a strip not turned over.

It is definitely true. If you look at the approximately vertical part of the beams that fasten between the moldboards and the horizontal beams, you will see there is an offset in these verticals. For 16 inch cut the offset will be to the right for the front bottom and to the left for the rear bottom. This is when standing behind the plow and looking forward. The offset is 1 inch on each bottom giving you the additional 2 inches required. I don"t know if you can use the same moldboards with larger shares. Someone else will most likely know.
