I was recently given a John Deere 1327 disc mower conditioner from a good friend that didn't need it anymore. He knew that the shaft that drives the discs was broken and said it would probably be $200-300 to replace. Well....I just priced one today and it is $2,600.00!!!!! ! This is for a ring gear and a shaft....you just can't get the shaft alone. To me this is totally absurd. Is this their way to get people to buy new equipment?? Looks like I have a big piece of yard art now.

Depending on exactly what part this is, you may be able to source it from Kuhn more reasonably. The bar is Kuhn, through and through. The differences are in the frame and possibly the drives to the bar.... Chances are, if it goes inside the bar, it's a Kuhn part.

Take another way of looking at this though. Figurte out what the mower would cost to fully reman. Then go price a new FC300 Kuhn.... My money's on you fixing the 1327.

Started tearing into the machine today and found some good news....it's not the gearbox shaft that's messed up. Seems to be the first or second gear in the cutter bar. Bad news is that the entire cutter bar has to be disassembled in order to get to it. The price of those gears are much more reasonable. Maybe by next spring I'll be able to disassemble and reassemble it. LOL

Now would be the time to find a good Kuhn dealer that can help you cross that bar to a Kuhn model number and chase your parts that way. I have a later 1460 Deere which has the modular bar from the Kuhn FC300. My Kuhn dealer isn't really so helpful on crossing parts, but if I tell them to send somethig down, they will do it.... it's just that I'm on my own with it.
I think... and I do say think that the 1327 will roughly share a bar with the Kuhn GMD77HD. I've never gotten down to looking close at the beds but the knives and discs appear to be interchangeable.
This is some research that's apt to pay you because the Deere parts are.... DEAR.

give bill over at gear products a call, 708-344-0875, they build gears and reverse engineer gears that are obsolete and or no longer available. email them some photos of the old gear and shaft with a ruler in it for approximate sizes he can give you a ball park price. sales@gearproducts dot net
