Now that I got my round baler 4X4 I need to find a Round Feeder that is not 8ft in diameter. What do other people use with these smaller bales?
Thanks,
DJ

There`s a guy north of here who turns tractor tires inside out. Claims they make a great bale feeder and will fit a 4x4 bale..

My cows just "Push" the feeder to the hay. Start out with the feeder against the side of the bale. They'll teach themselves. It doesn't seem to ruin the feeder.

Slickest method I've ever seen is the way my neighbor does it.

He takes an old flat-bed farm wagon, sets three bales on the thing, just pulls it out to his feeding area, pulls the hitch pin and lets it set.

Used to do that too. Lot less waste and could move it to a different spot if it got muddy in the first spot. Worked good until a couple of big Holsteins got the bright idea of standing on it. Now I need a new floor. :>(

I was wrong about the name ... Duuuh.. It is Hutchison not filson. Google up Flex bale feeders if they sound interesting to you... They work great for me.. And the will stand up to bulls as well as cows.. Sorry about the name mix-up... Tallperson

I have used several types. The brand I like the best is a Filson , don't hold me to that name. THe feeder is made up of 4 curved panels that pin together. You can pull two pins and swing open 2 sections to put in a new bale. No need to drop it in over the top. Also as the cattle feed down the bale they can push the sides together until the 4 sections form a flattened figure "8". They clean up nearly every bit of hay. When you are not using them the panels can be seperated and tied up to a fence post to keep them out of the way for cleaning pens etc. Tallperson
