Corn Gluten (Dry) is $130 a ton delivered. It tests out 23-25% Protein. They guarantee it to have 16% but it always tests in the 23-25% for us. You have to feed a good mineral supplement with it. All you need now is some roughage IE: hay,silage, corn stalks,etc. You can reduce you hay usage back 25-40%.

If you purchase hay buy the best quality you can find. The transportation cost is the same for poor quality hay as high quality hay. If purchasing corn stalks make sure if the corn stalks come from a dryer area to test for high nitrates concentration.

Harvesting late grass hay for silage is an alturnative. Make sure you know about Prussic Acid Poisoning.

Any recommedations for a cheap source of energy and Vitamin A? My cows seem to do ok on single digit protein.

I'm going to put some effort into getting next year's hay crop in the ground. I guess the corn gluten comes in bulk and needs flat storage.
