Gehl 1470 baler

I'm looking to buy a Gehl 1470 baler and was wanting some opinions about it. I know it makes a 5x4 bale. What are the pros and cons of that bale size? How much will the bales weigh?

I've never used one so these are general comments.

I think the bale size is 4 ft. wide by 5 ft. high. This size is very popular and if you are selling them they have the advantage of fitting easily in the back of a pick up truck. If transporting larger amounts you can stack them 2 wide on a trailer for a width of about 8 feet which might make the highway patrol happier. How much they weigh depends on the type and condition of the hay, maybe 800-1200 pounds.

As to the baler, bear in mind that Gehl has quit making balers, so don't know about parts. The Gehl balers I have seen were very well made. That baler has a precompression roller where the hay feeds in which some say may be an issue getting the bale started. It may be a model that has air bags to provide baling pressure so I would check condition and ask about leaks. Hope someone chimes in who has run one of these.
