Hi, I was wondering what you guys were getting for fuel milage on older grain trucks with gas engines. Just was wondering if i was getting average or not....going to check it tonight when i fill up.

1972 International Fleetstar 2010A Tandem Tractor, 38 Ft Wilson flat bottom grain trailer (900+ Bu.). 549/13speed. 2-3 mpg

I don't haul grain, but when I was considering buying a '56 IH dump gasserI was warned I'd only get 4-5 mpg. Well, a load of waste rock delivered is $140-160.00. It's about 20 cents a yard loaded at the plant. So theres about a dollar and a half. I figure the 14 mile round trip on back roads is gonna use about 5 gallons, so there's $15.00 plus the $1.50. Figure all the other crap in and I can still get a load for under $20.00. The truck costs $600.00. In 6 loads I've bought my truck and I need a lot of stone.

My point? These days ya gots to do the best ya can with what ya got!

My 1968 and 1969 IH Loadstars usually each burn around 5 gallons in a 24 mile round trip to the elevator.They each haul 350 bushels.One is a 304 and the other is a 392.

1972 gmc 5500 350 5speed 2 speed axle 7 at best.

Allan in Ne do you a chevy truck with 350 would get any better mileage if you put new style heads and fuel injection on it? If this is even possible. Lee

My 1980 Ford F600 with 370 V8 averages 6 mpg, loaded and empty miles figured together. Hauling 330 to 345 bushels of corn.

1966 International Loadstar 1600, 345, 5 speed, with 2 speed axle; 4 mpg loaded, 6 mpg empty. Runs less than 300 miles per year. Bob

If your getting 6 or 7 your doing very well. We plan on 4 for gas and maybe 6 for diesel. I think the over-the road- guys are doing good if they get 7

our ford 700 with 330 gas gets about 3.5 mpg or so.
