Fella Hay Mower Question

Speaking of Hay, I'm getting ready to renovate a 25 acre Bahiagrass pasture over to a high producing bermudagrass hay field. I posted a couple of months ago about a good deal I got on a Fella mower and Vermeer 604 J baler. I'm starting to get both pieces ready to go for next year. Baler is operational now, mower needs help. Got the manuals and seen the website showing how to replace individual cutter boxes. My problem is this, it's got a loud high pitched noise when spooled up. I know these mowers make some racket, but my gut says a bearing is going somewhere. Where/how would you start looking without taking each cutter box off and ispecting individualy? This is a shaft drive type disc mower. Anybody got any ideas or worked on a Fella before? sorry for the long post.

Not famillar with your mower, but this may help. What I do on my equipment, including my Krone disc cutter is I had an RF temperature reader and after running the equipment I check the temperature at each bearing. I do this on my hay baler and cutter almost everytime I use them. If you have one bearing going out then you should see that bearing running hotter than the rest of them.
Like I said I not sure how your mower is made etc, but maybe this would help.

Is this the mower that has cutter heads that are wider than other makes? If so, the only knowledge I have of them is seeing a cut away model at a farm show and hearing the discussion from the factory rep. However, I was very impressed. It turned very easily and was supposed to run quitely because it was carefully balanced and had foam packing in the cutterbar to deaden noise. The cutterheads were individual units that were sealed and not rebuildable. In case of problems, the whole unit was replaced at a cost 3-4 years ago of $400. If thats what you have and a cutterhead is making noise, you may as well run it some if the whole unit has to be replaced anyway. I think the shaft runs on sealed bearings and maybe one ot them is bad. Also, could a belt be slipping and making the noise?
JM's suggestion about temperature checks is good, since you can't do much checking with the cutter running for obvious safety reasons. You might walk around it at a safe distance and localize the noise. You also might run it in the upright position and see if you can find the noise location that way. As I said, according to the salesman, the mower was supposed to run quiet.
Have you found a dealer you can call? Also Google Fella and see if you can get a number for factory service. Good luck.
