My baler was just working fine. Routed new twine to the knotters and cannot seem to get the pickup to engage. I must have something out of position. Any hints???

sometimes if you go back and rebale a busted or mistied bale the old twine will get wrapped around things in the pick up reel and cause it not to turn and the clutch to slip, if your baler is so equipted.

Check the pins on the clutch on the left side. Follow the main drive chain up to a sprocket behind it has a ratchet clutch that lets the pickup turn only in one direction and those pins may be stuck. Clear as mud? Check your manual it will show these pins and they should be oiled. Hope this helps

Did you check to see if the belt is slipping? Might have a chain off on the left side. Mine wears out one bearing on the left side of one of the pickup bars and causes the pickup to stick and not move. In a pinch you can pull out the bearing and run with three pickup bars.

The chains look fine. I will admit I am a rookie at this and have only used the baler one time. I was trying to re-thread the twine, and I must have dis-engaged the pickup from turning. I opened the front view compartment cover and the gearbox is not engaged, nothing is turning except the front flywheel. I feel it is something very simple that I have inadvertantly done.

You have sheared the flywheel shear bolt. Look toward the center of the flywheel and you will see about a 5/16 inch hole through the flywheel and the oblong piece by the flywheel bolt. Sometimes part of the bolt will still be stuck in one side of the hole. Just replace it and you will be back in business. Be sure to use actual shear bolts from New Holland. I buy them in ten packs. They are designed to be the weak link in the system so they break instead of something else.

You nailed it! Thank you very much. I knew it had to be something simple. I will replace with New Holland Shear bolt. Thanks again.

Check the pickup drive chains.

The flywheel shear bolt is simply a Grade 5 - 5/16 X 2" bolt. Do not get the Grade 8 or Grade 2. Most any hardware store has them.
