WEED #1: I need help in identifying the weed pictured. I have Bahia grass and would like to know what herbicide will kill the weed without hurting the grass. I have used 2-4D with surfactant but it will not kill this weed.

Go to www.cdms.net, click on services and then labels/msds. Then search for whatever label you want. Grazon, Remedy, generic triclopyr, flouroxypyr, etc. It's amazing what a label can tell you about weeds controlled, mixing of herbicides, etc.

Indigofera species, also known as "Hairy Indigo" You must be somewhere around North Florida, It's bad this time of year. Actually makes a good forage and as a legume, adds nitrogen for the bahia. Use Remedy or generic Triclopyr 4 w/pasture labeling(we sell it much cheaper than Remedy) with a surfactant used at low rates. Always read the label first, but I think around 48 ounces to the acre will do it, along with the other weeds.

What about using Grazon P&D. Also, do you need a chemical license to buy Grazon?

Sorry, Picloram and any herbicides containing it are not legal for use in Florida, due to groundwater concerns. Grazon is Triclopyr and Picloram. I have found the Triclopyr formulations to be very effective on most broadleafs including those you have. I knew this degree in Agronomy was going to help someone someday!

Generic Triclopyr? in reply to JBMac, 10-08-2007 11:26:31
What are the names of the generic versions of Remedy? I can get Remedy for $65/gal but I was hoping to find something cheaper. Also, what are your thoughts on Crossbow? Does it work on all these weeds or maybe not as effective? Lastly, do you know if these are safe to use under trees? I don't want to accidently kill any trees.

Looks like sicklepod, or one of the Cassia species.

Dunno for certain, but that reminds me of velvetleaf in it's more juvenile stage... Hard to tell from the pic, and thankfully it's been about 5 years since I've seen any. I don't recall that it responds well to chemicals of any kind. If that's what you've got there, pull it. Eradicate it before it gets a foothold. Pull it and burn it if necessary. If it sets seed, look at how much it has...
