Allis Chalmers Roto Baler Help Needed

have an old AC Roto Baler that I have used for several seasons. It has worked very well, making good bales with minimal trouble. I bale 4,000 bales per season with it.

I had a bit of hard luck with it while baling my last field and need some help from anyone who might know what the problem is.

I left the baler sit overnight without loosening the friction brake, got in too much of a hurry and started baling the next day. On the first bale it made a bale as normal then I heard a loud "crunch" and the brake seized in the up position while the otherside went down after ejecting the bale. With it being so cock eyed it broke the gear that runs up the gear bar that is bolted to the frame.

I used a jack and took off the long adjustment bar that adjusts the top roller height, this allowed the brake side of the roller to return to the bottom (after getting the brake un stuck).

I replaced the broken gear and put it back together. I ran it and everything looked normal, so I went out and ran 3 bales through it with the brake very loose. It functioned fine, then I tightened the brake to make a tighter bale, but I did not over tighten and wham, it happened again. This time no gears were broken.

I repeated my actions to get the rollers lined up and noticed that the brake side of the bottom roller now sits about 2 inches higher than the other side. I can use a pry bar and line it up, but it goes back to being lopsided as soon as I release pressure.
I made the brake as loose as possible, feeling that with only 100 bales left, loose bales were still bales and the cows would'nt care.
I started the baler again, it looked as if it would work so I started into the windrow. After wrapping 1/2 of a bale with a very loose brake, wham, it happened again. So I gave up until I can find someone who may be able to tell me what the problem might be.

I am sorry for writing a book, but details are nescessary when dianosing a problem at a distance!

As the baler sits now, standing at the back of the machine the top roller is extremely uneven with the right side of the roller all the way down and the left side all the way up. The bottom roller as just as cock eyed with the brake end all of the way up and the other end all the way down. So the rollers are at an angel to represent a V laying on it's side with the closed end of the V on the right side.

Can anyone help me out here?

Thanks

Been 25 yrs since I've run one and haven't missed it at all. All the guys that got maimed over the years on those things didn't get caught in them, they lost their mind and jumped in them. Anyway, are you sure the latches are holding the arms closed?? Remember having that happen one time and had to rework the latches to get it to stay closed. if one latch comes open it will do what you are describing, usually with a part of a bale.
