Thanks for the replies, we have found the problem, it is the crank assembly inside the box. It is a model #41. Question where to find assembly part # 581385m91. Thanks again for the help

#41 was built by Vermeer for Massey Ferguson. They are good mowers. I had one until recently. Also own (still have) a New Holland 451. The NH is SLIGHTLY better mower IMHO, but much harder to hook/unhook by yourself. Parts are difficult to locate for the #41. Some parts still available through AGCO/MF. Try them first. Next would be a used equipment dealer for salvage parts from another old mower. You might try a Vermeer dealer to see if parts are obtainable throgh them, but I'd say that's a 1,000,000 to 1 chance.

Charles, I have cut many acres of hay using several types of mowers. I still have one of those Ferguson mowers in the barn. The Ferguson pitmanless mower is, in my opinion, by far the best of the old mowers I ever used and the most trouble free. It should be well worth the effort to get it working. If it has set a while, it may just need freeing up. Good luck on getting it working.

first remove the belt and work from there trying to get things to move by hand or by putting a wrench on a nut and trying to turn it or pry bars. soak the blade with kero or some lubricant. look to see if a rivet has come part of the way out on a section and is locking it up. you may have to remove the hold downs on top of the blade or at least loosen them up and then try tapping the blade on the end while turning the gear box over by hand some way. if that doesn't do it remove the blade from the drive and see what will work from there. if you can't get the gear box to turn then you may have to go into it, but i don't know where you'd ever get parts for it. hope you'll didn't give much for it and asked seller if it was suppose to be in working condition or was it bought as is.

Not to sound like a smart a$$, but I would start by junking it and getting a 451 New Holland or 1300 IH to mow with. I had two of those old MF mowers and neither was worth a dime.
