Need help on JD Model FB 13*7 Grain Drill

Ive borrowed neighbors John Deere 13 by 7 Model FB Drill to sow wheat,and he lost his book.If You have a book,I would appreciate help on wheat settings for 2 bushel per acre setting.Thanks

That's what the chart said for average size grain and US weights per bushel and using 7.60-15 passenger car tires. When using other tires there is a correction factor you multiply times the pounds of seed you want to plant to get right with the chart settings. With 6.70-15 passenger car tires or implement tires the correction factor is 1.04. With 8.20-15 passenger car tires the correction factor is .95. So for example you wanted to plant 82 pounds of wheat with 6.70-15 tires you use correction factor 1.04. 1.04 x 82 = 85.28 or 85 pounds. So set notch at 16 to get about 85 pounds. This will all vary on seed size, how clean, and tire size height. 13x7 drill with 6.70-15, 4 ply tires inflate at about 19 pounds.

If you shop around can still find 6.70, 7.60, & 7.50 rib implement tires. Use 4, 6 or 8 ply adjusting air pressure to get correct height. FB manual doesn't tell axle height that I saw but on most all other later JD end wheel drills you just adjusted tire inflation to get 13 1/4 inches from center of axle to ground surface with 15" tires and 17 1/4" with 20" tires.

For FB 7" spacing the chart in manual shows for wheat: Notch 4 = 18 lbs., 8=39, 12=61, 16=84, 20=108, 24=132, 28=155, 32=180, 36=205, 40=236, 44=268, 48=281. So for 120 somewhere between 20 and 24 notch for 7" spacing and between 24 & 28 for 8" spacing drill. Set the feed gates lever in front of flute cup in the LH upper notch for wheat, oats, barley, rice, rye, buckwheat. Open the gates more for trashy grains or larger grains. I'm going from memory here but i think to put on 90 lbs. you set it on 16. (thats what we normally sow around se kansas) so 120 would be somewhere around 18 or 20. i'll check tommorrow and get back

My book is about 8 miles away. Doing oats seems to me 2 bushels was right around mid scale. What you can do is jack of a wheel, turn it ten times with the drill in gear, catch and weight what gets measured out and adjust from there. I did that refine my drill settings even starting with the book that recommends some other checking to be sure of the rate. This is because the drill is a volume measuring tool while the seed is measured in pounds... and the weight is different for different sources of seed.
