Wheel disc 10ft

I personally like what IH built as far as wheel disc's go. Parts available still. My current wheel disc is an IH #370. Very solid and does a great job. I've owned a couple Deere disc's and wasn't at all pleased with their results. (Ridging, don't tow well.)

With anything used, you're shopping for the condition NOW rather than what was the best way back when.

8' to 10'ers still sell fairly good around here. Bigger widths sell cheaper usually.

Just came in from the field from using it. Trying to aerate the hay field to get it ready for next year.

Make sure like others have said that you can get the bearings/pivot castings if it has them. One sitting in a fence row can almost be assured of needing some parts replaced. Nit fun or cost advantageous to try and have parts custom made.

My wheel disk is a 1954 and Deere still sells the parts.

Got lucky and found an Amish man up in PA that works on my model disk. Had all the parts in stock . I'd post a picture if I knew how.

My 36HP diesel pulls the disk harrow fine. I'd be way under powered for a turning disk. JMHO

If at all possible look for a disc with a modern long flotation hitch and spring/shock flex gang hangers. Those two items will go a long long way to preserving the life of the disc and lessening the problems if you have rocky ground. Good luck.

For the larger disc, you start to see a price break on the use dmodels that are really large.. like 12+ feet, that take 90+ hp to pull.. I've seen 15 and 12' disc go for as little as 10 and 8' disc.. or even less due to their size.

Good luck.. look thru the trader mag.. every not and then a guy has one he just wants to get off his property. i have seen them as low as 1500$.. but not very often.. perhaps 1/year..e tc..

I live in KY and went north 100 miles into Ohio where those guys think an 80 horse tractor is just fit for chores! If you find a 4 row corn planter up there..they'll almost give it you to get it out of their way. I bought an old JD 494 that looked like new..always shedded and was told it had 'only' planted 600 acres! Cost me $300. I asked the seller what he planted corn with...he told me a Kinze 42 row planter!!!!! ! Of course, when you put in 6000 acres....you need that size equipment. Nice 3 bottom plows can be had for $200 or less. So...go shopping where small equipment is the left overs from years gone by and you can save some major bucks.

Look on ebay for ohiolandcompany...that's what the guy goes by. I seen somebody give Jeff a bad rap here..maybe a year or so ago. He has been a straight shooter with me and god knows, he owes me nothing. I had bought some stuff by bid on ebay and drove up to get it. While there I began to snoop through his other stuff and that's how I got my 10 ft Ford disc and 494 planter. His dad goes to the local auctions and buys this stuff up...they're making money and I saved major dollars over what it can be bought for down here in KY. I seen that Ford disc sitting there and said...how much to load that on the trailer? he looked at me and grinned and said.."Oh how about a couple hundred dollars?" It got put on in a hurry. he said....you need a nice 'little' corn planter? that's how I got the 494. I'll bet he had less than $200 in it. Those folks know where this stuff is and buy lots of it for not much over scrap value. I don't care about that because, A: I don't know where it is. And, B: I can't touch it for that kind of money where I live. Therefore, everybody comes out ahead.

I went up there to pick up a set of Dearborn 2-14" plows I got on ebay...for $78. I drove over to one of his neighbors and bought a Ward's 14" hammermill on a factory cart, in perfect working order for $200.

This stuff is meaningless to those big farmers...he called a set of 3-14" Ford 101's I got off him 'garden plows'! They cost me $190 and he gave me 3 new points for them. Best plows I ever pulled. This guy i buy from isn't the only person selling this stuff...you just have to find them wherever you are.
